EBRD appoints Fatih Türkmenoğlu as new Head of North Macedonia

Skopje, 31 October 2023 (MIA) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Fatih Türkmenoğlu as new Head of North Macedonia. Türkmenoğlu is to take office on Wednesday, November 1.

 

Türkmenoğlu is an international banking professional, with rich experience in infrastructure and commercial banking. Throughout his career, he has specialized in project implementation, cross-border finance, legal frameworks and donor relations. Before joining EBRD in 2012, he has worked in the public sector and commercial banking, EBRD said.

 

According to EBRD, Türkmenoğlu is anticipating the Bank to invest over EUR 180 million in North Macedonia in 2023.

 

“I look forward to cooperating with the authorities and the private sector during this exciting period for EBRD in North Macedonia. We are committed to supporting the country’s green transition through innovative financing products and through remarkable upcoming sustainability projects,”  Türkmenoğlu said.

 

He holds degrees in economics and finance from universities in Turkey and the United Kingdom. In taking this new post, he succeeds Andi Aranitasi, who is now heading the Bank’s operations in Uzbekistan.

 

EBRD has invested more than EUR 2.6 billion in 180 projects, nearly half of which were in the private sector, in North Macedonia since 1993. The Bank’s priority for the country is to support competitiveness, green transition, and further integration into regional and global markets. ssh/nn/
