Skopje, 25 September 2024 (MIA) — Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi, on the sidelines of the Berlin Process economic conference in Berlin, met with His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for Europe Chris Barton.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Economy and Labor, Minister Durmishi and Commissioner Barton reaffirmed the excellent political relations between the United Kingdom and North Macedonia. They both agreed this was a solid foundation for further deepening economic cooperation as well as for building new business ties between the two countries' business communities.
Minister Durmishi presented to Commissioner Barton the government's economic priorities, welcoming the creation of new opportunities to further promote economic cooperation.
At the meeting, Durmishi highlighted that the United Kingdom was North Macedonia's second greatest trade partner.
"We are delighted that the UK's total foreign investments into the Republic of North Macedonia have amounted to EUR 508.8 million over the past ten years, which makes the UK one of our largest investors," the economy minister said.
"We at the Ministry of Economy and Labor, whose competence the foreign investors' working conditions are under, consider it of great importance to work on improving the business climate so we can stimulate investments that create more jobs and greater economic growth," he said.
At the meeting, Minister Durmishi also thanked the Commissioner Barton for the support that North Macedonia has received from the UK Government over the years, primarily in the reform and development process on its way to full EU membership. mr/
