DUI leadership, members gather in front of Constitutional Court ahead of languages law assessment

Skopje, 11 December 2024 (MIA) - Members and activists of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) are gathering in front of the Constitutional Court ahead of its session on Wednesday that will assess the constitutionality and legality of the Law on the Use of Languages.

Former foreign minister Bujar Osmani and former education minister Arber Ademi are some of the higher-ranking figures that are present in front of the Court. DUI leader Ali Ahmeti and Alliance for Albanian’s Ziadin Sela are also expected to arrive.

DUI activists have been present in front of the Constitutional Court since Sunday in “defense of the Law on the Use of Languages”. According to the party, the scrapping of the law would mean “toppling one of the key pillars of the Ohrid Framework Agreement”.

Heightened police presence can be seen around the Constitutional Court building.
