DUI and Alliance for Albanians call on politicians to act responsibly
Skopje, 6 July 2022 (MIA) – It is a fact the Macedonian language will become a part of the Union’s official languages, and this is crystal clear in the negotiating framework. We have the framework, we will begin negotiations. It is expected for the screening process to begin immediately, this is explicitly provided and every other EU member state went through the screening process, sometimes it lasted 8, 12, 20 months, but, I expect that if we manage to make constitutional changes, we may have the second intergovernmental conference, as well, by the end of December, and to open the first cluster and chapter, to get into the essence of things after the screening process which we will go through together with Albania, said DUI MP Arber Ademi.
He spoke to reporters Wednesday after a meeting with the parliamentary working groups dedicated to discussion of the latest French proposal for the lifting of the Bulgarian veto on the country’s EU negotiations.
“With the confirmation of the negotiating framework by 27 countries, including Bulgaria, it will be confirmed that the Macedonian language is Macedonian and an official language of the Union. Certain news has circulated among the public that we do not have a negotiating framework, all representatives of EU institutions say that there is a negotiating framework and the documents which we have also say that there is a negotiating framework,” said Ademi.
The protocol, he added, is not a part of the negotiating framework and emphasized that we are ahead of a historic act when we need to think of future generations.
“We discussed the majority’s proposal concerning concrete conclusions which should be adopted in the Assembly. And when it comes to VMRO-DPMNE’s requests, we discussed concrete changes of the negotiating framework. These demands are a part of the proposal we have. Whether we could have or whether a better proposal could exist, a better proposal could always exist, but this is a serious proposal, we all need to contribute if we love the motherland,” added Ademi.
Elmi Aziri of the Alliance of Albanians said at the meeting there were discussions about a possible joint draft conclusion from the Assembly.
“We agreed to continue talks, we will see how things unfold, we are in an exceptionally important moment for the country and we should not miss out on this opportunity, because we have waited for years for the beginning of North Macedonia’s EU negotiations. This is a hope, and as a country we need to materialize it by beginning negotiations,” said Aziri.
According to him, this is not a time for emotional decisions, but “a time for the rationalization of all difficulties that we might stumble upon as obstacles on this path and a time to act responsibly as politicians”. ad/ba/
