Driving licenses with country’s old name valid until year’s end, Interior Minister urges citizens to replace them
- All citizens who have driving licenses that bear the country’s old name should start replacing them, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski urged Tuesday, noting that the old licenses will stop being valid at the end of 2024.
Skopje, 3 September 2024 (MIA) - All citizens who have driving licenses that bear the country’s old name should start replacing them, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski urged Tuesday, noting that the old licenses will stop being valid at the end of 2024.
“So far, 750.000 driving licenses with the country’s new constitutional name have been issued. Around one million driving licenses with the new name still need to be issued. I ask all citizens who have driving licenses with the old name to start replacing them in the coming period, since, in line with the legal amendments, the old licenses will stop being valid at the end of this year,” Toshkovski said.
The Minister said the process of issuing personal documents is back to normal.
“From this week onwards, any citizen who submits a request for a new passport, driving license, ID card, will be able to receive them within the legal deadline of 15 days,” the Minister said.
Asked whether the Ministry will bolster its capacities to avoid a similar issue with the documents in the future, Toshkovski said they are working on a permanent solution.
“Unlike those before, we are solving issues, and we are trying to simplify the entire procedure as much as possible, not only in terms of personal documents, but also in terms of every right that the Macedonian citizen has,” Toshkovski said.
