Skopje, 5 December 2024 (MIA) - International Anti-Corruption Day is not only a day to raise awareness, but also a call for concrete action. It reminds us that together we have the power to build a society where corruption has no place, where resources are directed towards the good of all citizens and where everyone has an equal chance for progress. We need to unite and act together, individually, institutionally and at all levels of government, head of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, Tatjana Dimitrovska told an event held in Parliament ahead of International Anti-Corruption Day - December 9.
She stressed that each of us has the responsibility and power to contribute to creating a society free from corruption.
According to her, together we can build a system based on transparency, integrity and accountability, values necessary for the progress of society. She pointed out that our common goal - a successful and sustainable fight against corruption, depends on our commitment and action.
"International Anti-Corruption Day is a reminder of the serious consequences that corruption has on societies worldwide. At the same time, it is also a call to strengthen our joint efforts and commitment in preventing its destructive and insidious impact. I expect proactivity, accountability and commitment in the fight against corruption, in all its forms," Dimitrovska told Thursday's event.
She pointed out that the United Nations Organization constantly reminds us that the world today faces some of its greatest challenges in many generations – challenges, which threaten prosperity and stability for people across the globe. The plague of corruption is intertwined in most of them.
"Corruption has negative impacts on every aspect of society and is profoundly intertwined with conflict and instability, jeopardizing social and economic development and undermining democratic institutions and the rule of law. Our commitment and action are key to achieving our common goal - a successful and sustainable fight against corruption," said Dimitrovska.
She highlighted the excellent cooperation with the State Audit Office, the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Financial Police Office and all other key institutions that play a significant role in the fight against corruption.
"I am convinced that this cooperation will not only continue, but deepen in the future in order to jointly achieve a society free from corruption, based on integrity, transparency and accountability. The fight against corruption requires joined forces, and I am confident that together we can make real changes. The international community is our important partner in our efforts to achieve a high level of independence, professionalism and digitalization, which will be the basis for success that we can be proud of," Dimitrovska pointed out.
