Deputy PM Nikolovski meets UNODC Executive Director Waly
Skopje, 15 September 2021 (MIA) - Deputy PM for the fight against corruption and crime, sustainable development and human resources Ljupcho Nikolovski met Wednesday in Vienna with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Executive Director Ghada Waly. The government press service says discussions focused on cooperation within the UNODC regional program for South East Europe, with a special focus on measures that North Macedonia took in regards to the fight against corruption, as well as signing the Regional Roadmap on Anti-Corruption and Illicit Finance Flows by all countries of the Western Balkans. “I am especially happy that the UNODC has shown immense support and recognized the progress North Macedonia and other regional countries have made, and they are happy with the cooperation with our country. This is added motivation for us to continue going stronger in our fight against corruption, alongside our international partners,” Nikolovski said at the meeting. Executive Director Waly invited Deputy PM Nikolovski to attend the ninth Conference of Member States at the UN’s Convention against Corruption, which will be held in Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh on December 13-17 December. Nikolovski also met with the leadership of UNODC’s Division for Treaty Affairs, focusing on the measures North Macedonia is implementing in terms of strengthening border control, firearms and implementation of the decrees from the letter signed with the Government in 2020, as well as implementation of the decrees of the UN’s Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Convention against Corruption. During the Vienna visit, Deputy PM Nikolovski will also meet Austrian Justice Minister Alma Zadić, reads the press release.
