Deputy PM Mexhiti says Gov’t faced ‘destructive opposition’ in first 100 days of rule

Skopje, 30 September 2024 (MIA) - First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Izet Mexhiti, told media Monday the Government faced a destructive opposition in its first 100 days, but despite that, he said, it remained committed to its promises and program.

“The first 100 days are meant for the new Government to appoint its people and start working. But we faced a destructive opposition that criticizes daily, with or without basis. At the same time, some things from the past were raised up, that weren’t solved as they should have been, such as the Law on the Languages, the ‘balancer’, Badinter... They had a long time, eight years, to solve them, but they didn’t solve them, and now they abuse them and the judiciary for daily politics. Unfortunately, they are using them to destabilize and mislead in or to avoid being held accountable. This cannot be justified. Despite this, we were committed to our promises and program every day,” said Mexhiti.

Mexhiti said the Euro-integrations process and the condition the country has to fulfill for its continuation remain one of the Government’s key priorities. “This is the only option for all citizens, and this Government has a democratic capacity and knows how to navigate this path,” he said.

The Deputy PM also stressed the decentralization and government assistance to municipalities.

“Out of all 80 municipalities there are already applications for projects for concrete solutions to problems faced by the citizens, EUR 100 million will be granted this year, and 900 million in the next 3-4 years. With this we have shown that we are committed to the decentralization which is closest to the citizens and a pillar of the Ohrid Framework Agreement,” Mexhiti said in answer to a journalist’s question regarding the first 100 days of the new Government.
