Deputy PM Mexhiti meets U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Pyatt

Skopje, 11 September 2024 (MIA) - First Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti met with United States Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, during his official visit to Washington on Tuesday, discussing the state of energy resources in the country and long-term plans for investments in this key economic sector.
"We discussed our country's energy resources, with a focus on planned investments in production of green energy. One of our main goals is to reduce dependency from energy imports," said Deputy PM Mexhiti, who was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of Energy, Mining and Minerals Sanja Bozhinovska.
Mexhiti said the meeting also tackled North Macedonia's involvement in the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) as a way to significantly lower energy imports and thus contribute to the country's energy stability, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said in a press release.
"I also briefed Ambassador Pyatt on the Government's long-term plan in the sector of energy, and the improvement of air and water quality in the country. We remain committed to the green agenda," said Mexhiti after the meeting.
