Deputy PM Mexhiti meets new UN Resident Coordinator Columbia

Skopje, 3 October 2024 (MIA) - First Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti met Thursday with the new United Nations Resident Coordinator Rita Columbia, discussing the two upcoming conferences of the “Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and Climate Change” and other issues of mutual interest.

Deputy PM Mexhiti expressed gratitude for the cooperation so far, while Resident Coordinator Columbia reaffirmed the preparedness of UN implementing agencies for greater involvement in the implementation of policies for a healthier environment, in terms of the future framework cooperation agreement for 2026-2030 with the Government of North Macedonia," the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said in a press release.

Interlocutors agreed on the need for a synchronized approach in programming UN projects with national priorities "due to the complexity of issues and need to integrate policies for a healthy environment in other sectorial policies, in order to reduce negative impact of climate change and its impact on biodiversity."

Resident Coordinator Columbia highlighted the Ministry's values demonstrated through team work, experience, and knowledge, reads the press release. ssh/ik/
