Deputy PM Mexhiti meets IOM Head Bozhinovska Petrushevska

Skopje, 16 September 2024 (MIA) - First Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti met Monday with a delegation of the International Organization for Migrants (IOM) based in Skopje, IOM Head of Mission in North Macedonia, Sonja Bozhinovska Petrushevska, and Project Manager, Vanja Lazaridis.

The Ministry supports two projects with IOM, related to measurement of air quality in the municipality of Tetovo, and the inclusion of migrants to the National Plan of Adaptation to Climate Change, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said in a press release.

"During the first project in Tetovo and its environment, in cooperation with the South East European University, air quality measurements were made through sensors installed in several locations, which aimed to provide information on the correlation of air quality in the city and human mobility," the press release reads.

Interlocutors discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation on projects as part of the Green Finance Facility, implemented in cooperation with UNDP, which highlights the relation between migratory movements and climate change.

IOM has been present in North Macedonia since 1999, providing support for the humanitarian needs of migrant and domestic migration, through direct humanitarian assistance. ssh/nn/
