Deputy PM Dimitrov: Slovenian Presidency’s priorities in favor of EU’s credibility
Ljubljana, 22 July 2021 (MAI) – The Slovenian EU Presidency’s priorities for the next six months include friendly support for North Macedonia and the region, as well as good relations, which is in favor of the Union’s credibility, Deputy PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov said in Ljubljana on Thursday during a meeting with the State Secretary at Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gašper Dovžan,
“Shared past with Slovenia is an extension of wishes for building a joint, European future. The Slovenian EU Presidency’s priorities for the next six months include friendly support for us and the region, as well as good relations, which is in favor of the Union’s credibility,” Dimitrov stressed.
In light of the joint interest in finalizing the process for uniting Europe, the Secretariat for European Affairs said in a press release, Dimitrov also met in Ljubljana with Latvian FM Edgars Rinkēvičs and State Secretary at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Martin Klus.
“Interlocutors reaffirmed at meetings support for the start of EU talks with North Macedonia, considering the fact that the country has met all conditions. They agreed that urgent progress is needed in the EU enlargement process,” the press release read.
Following bilateral meetings, Dimitrov is set to attend on Thursday evening an informal dinner with the heads of Western Balkan delegations.
“Dimitrov’s bilateral agenda resumes on Friday with meetings with representatives from France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Finland, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, etc., following the plenary sessions at the informal meeting of EU’s General Affairs Council (GAC),” underlined the press release.
