Deputy MoI says delivery of passport booklets continued, over 1.3 million passports already replaced

Kumanovo, 20 February 2024 (MIA) - Over 20,000 passport booklets have been delivered, additional batches will arrive by the end of the month and in June. Therefore, no one is being sabotaged in the Ministry of Interior, said additional Deputy Minister of Interior Mitko Bojmacaliev on Tuesday.

"No one is being sabotaged in the ministry. As an illustration, 50,000 passport booklets arrived on the day when former minister (Oliver) Spasovski handed over the office to incumbent Minister (Panche) Toshkovski, a further 20,000 were delivered a few days ago and we expect a larger batch by the end of the month. Furthermore, a large shipment is due in June, which means that citizens' needs will be met and they will receive their documents," Deputy Minister Bojmacaliev told reporters.

Regarding information that certain countries allow entry of Macedonian nationals using passports with the previous name, he said states should decide on this, while urging citizens to apply for new documents.

"EU should decide whether it will allow the entry of citizens using passports with the previous name, which are no longer valid as per our law. There are certain countries that still allow citizens to enter, while others don't. I will not list names in order to avoid confusion among citizens. The best option for the citizens is to come and get a new passport. As of now, over 1.3 million citizens have replaced their passports, which is a significant number considering the political instructions that we have witnessed over the past three years," noted Bojmacaliev.
