Demiri: Private resident doctors to receive higher pay after elections

Skopje, 22 April 2024 (MIA) – Health Minister Ilir Demiri said Monday that private resident doctors will receive higher salaries after the elections.

"All private resident doctors are receiving salary ranging from Mden 25,000 to 28,000, inclusive of payment for their on-call duties. Following the announcement of the elections and the start of the campaign, some of them have initiated efforts to raise their salaries. With pleasure, we would do that, and we will do it after the completion of the elections. They will receive a proportionately higher salary, but also an obligation regardless of whether I will be the minister or someone else, to contribute their effort and engagement in every region of the country where there is a need for them,” Demiri told reporters today's press conference.

He noted that specializations will no longer be offered based on preferences but only for the essential personnel.

"We lack radiologists, hematologists, neonatologists, pediatricians, pathologists, microbiology specialists, epidemiologists. After the elections, I hope there will be an opportunity to conduct a thorough assessment and establish a framework for determining which specializations, whether private or public, will be available at the state level,” Demiri said.
