Defence Minister Petrovska, Canadian Ambassador Norman jointly condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
Skopje, 10 March 2022 (MIA) – Defence Minister Slavjanka Petrovska and the Canadian Ambassador to the country Giles Norman during their meeting on Thursday jointly condemned the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Minister Petrovska stressed that in today's Europe there is no room for military conflict and suffering that we have all witnessed in recent days, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release.
"Now the most relevant matter is to restore peace and stability, and all misunderstandings must be resolved through diplomacy and honest dialogue," Petrovska said.
Ambassador Norman stressed that North Macedonia's NATO membership is particularly important for the country, but also for the stability of the region. He underscored the importance of the unity of the international community in condemning military action.
North Macedonia and Canada have been cooperating in the field of defence since 1999, when the Memorandum of Understanding for military cooperation was signed. The two countries mostly cooperate in the field of military education, which includes in English and French language learning, training for planning exercises, training for staff officers in peacekeeping missions and training for civil-military relations. In the next period, the two countries plan to expand defence cooperation in new areas.
