Debate: Role of young people in strengthening democratic culture

Skopje, 18 March 2024 (MIA) - Representatives of youth party wings in the country and civil society organizations took part Monday in debate titled "Role of Young People in Strengthening Democratic Culture" with the aim of building a culture of dialogue and democratic atmosphere in the run-up to the elections.

The debate was organized by Deputy PM for Good Governance Policies Slavica Grkovska, who stated they are not focused on political and party differences, but issues in the interest of everyone and real values that everyone would like to see in the society.

"Let’s start with a culture of dialogue between youth party wings and thereby create a democratic culture and maturity that the dialogue between political subjects should be a normal and continuous activity, especially regarding issues that require consensus - for real values and integrity, in the direction we would like our society to move," Grkovska said, adding that the goal of the debate is to continue the activities with young people that her Cabinet has been implementing for the past two years under the slogan "It Depends on Me and You."

According to her, youth wings have the capacity to think independently without being influenced by party leaders. She also encouraged them to be themselves, and believes that by accepting the invitation to debate shows their will and desire for it.

"Young people and women are always the ones who bring positive societal changes, and therefore it is important that young people, political leaders who are the future of our country, be the heralds of the future and the new political environment, create a policy and culture of dialogue for all that is common good. We have enough issues on which we are and should be different due to our ideological convictions, but there is one core group of issues on which we simply must have a consensus, because these are issues that transcend one government, issues in continuity. If there is consensus among political actors, success will follow. I'm sure that among all political actors there is knowledge and capacity to define these issues, create consensus and achieve them, no matter which political faction is in power," Grkovska stressed.
