Skopje, 16 February 2024 (MIA) - President of the State Election Commission (SEC), Aleksandar Dashtevski, states that there will be no issues with the progress of the pre-election campaign due to the double electoral process and overlaps. However, during the election silence period for the presidential elections, the campaign for the parliamentary elections will need to halt for 48 hours.
“During the election silence period for the presidential elections, the campaign will have to be halted for 48 hours. The campaign will need to be suspended for one or two days because there could be potential abuse. For one or two days, the campaign will have to be suspended to prevent potential misuse. This allows candidates advancing to the second round and those running for parliamentary seats to continue," Dashtevski told Sitel TV late Friday.
Regarding the announced procedure for aligning the system to allow citizens to decide whether to vote only for the president or only for the parliamentary elections when they arrive at the polling station, Dashtevski stated that this change in the software requires time, but the right of citizens will be respected.
He expressed hope that the composition of the SEC will be completed, and as he assessed, the pre-election activities so far have been good.
