Culture minister: Open Balkan co-production film fund to be set up
Skopje, 2 September 2022 (MIA) - Culture Minister Bisera Kostadinovska - Stojchevska and her counterparts from Albania and Serbia, Elva Margariti and Maja Gojković, signed Friday a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in cinematography and audiovisual activities in the Western Balkans as part of the Open Balkan Summit in Belgrade. "This document contributes to strengthening and expanding cooperation in cinema and audiovisual activities in the region. It is envisaged to stimulate cultural and economic development with sustainable future of the artists and film workers in the Western Balkans," said Kostadinovska - Stojchevska. The three Open Balkan countries through the initiative to establish cooperation in the film industry have taken into consideration the significance of the industry in the development of creative industries and mobility of artists and film workers as well as film co-productions in the Western Balkan market. The memorandum also allows promotion of joint cinematographic heritage, according to Kostadinovska - Stojchevska. An Open Balkan co-production fund for film professionals will be set up and joint application for other funds will be made easier. Also, distribution will be improved as a way to further develop culture in the region, added the Minister. After the summit, a Macedonian Evening for promotion of Macedonian products, wines, food and national treasures of interest for tourists will be held, hosted by Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski.
