Covid-19: 9,417 active cases, 1,074 new infections, 24 deaths
Skopje, 20 August 2021 (MIA) — Over the past 24 hours, North Macedonia logged 1,074 new Covid-19 cases from 7,571 tests done in the country, and 24 people, aged 43 to 79, died from coronavirus-related complications, health authorities said Friday evening. According to the Ministry of Health citing Public Health Institute data, of the 1,074 new Covid-19 cases, 357 were diagnosed in Skopje. New cases were also recorded in Gostivar and Tetovo – 155 each, Kumanovo – 74, Kichevo – 51, Strumica – 40, Debar – 20, Struga – 27, Veles – 22, Prilep – 21, Bitola and Shtip – 17 each, Kavadarci – 16, Gevgelija – 15, Sveti Nikole – 13, Resen – 11, Ohrid and Kochani – nine each, Radovish, Valandovo and Kratovo – eight each, Bogdanci – six, Berovo and Makedonski Brod – five each, Negotino, Kriva Palanka, Delchevo, Vinica and Pehchevo – five each. Of the 24 people who died from Covid-19 complications, six died in Skopje (aged 69, 70, 73, 76, 77 and 79), five died in Kumanovo (aged 59, 60, 67, 69 and 78), four died in Tetovo (aged 47, 62, 67 and 68), three died in Kichevo (aged 64, 67 and 77), two died in Gostivar (aged 63 and 74), and one person died in Valandovo (aged 43), Ohrid (aged 61), Strumica (aged 73), and Bitola (aged 74). All of them died in hospital. In the past 24 hours, 291 people recovered from the virus. At the moment, 9,417 cases are active nationwide, of which 3,088 in Skopje. Since the onset of the epidemic, North Macedonia has performed a total of 1,093,646 tests, recording 166,741 Covid-19 cases and 151,692 recoveries. The death toll has reached 5,632. mr/
