Court verdict needed before Parliament can initiate dismissal of SCPC head: Speaker

Skopje, 21 July 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi told journalists Monday that a final court verdict is necessary before Parliament can begin proceedings to revoke the mandate of the President of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, Tatjana Dimitrovska, who has been indicted of disclosing official secrets and falsifying the exam for obtaining a security certificate.

“There needs to be a final court verdict. As you know, the procedure is outlined in the Rules of Procedure and the Committee on Election and Appointment Issues. So, any procedure should begin in that Committee. And they can make any decision. For dismissal, they need to make a decision and then that needs to be processed at a plenary session. Whatever the Committee decides, I will process it at a plenary session. But the law is clear, it doesn’t refer to an indictment but to a final court verdict. This is what the MPs should reflect on. The legal grounds aren’t there yet, but when it comes to reputation, whether someone can lead that body while indicted is more an issue of ethics and reputation, of dignity in leading that institution. Still, it remains in the hands of the Committee,” the Parliament Speaker said.

Gashi stressed that the head of the SCPC has so far not tendered a resignation to Parliament.

Even during the investigation, Dimitrovska said she has no intention of stepping down from her position, noting she believes that without a court verdict everyone is innocent. At the proposal of the Prosecutor’s Office she has been prohibited from acting on SCPC cases, she is also not allowed to receive mail and the court has confiscated her passport.
