Court orders 48-hour detention of four suspects over Trubarevo fire
- A pre-trial judge at the Skopje-based Criminal Court has ordered 48-hour detention of four suspects in connection with the Trubarevo fire.
Skopje, 15 September 2025 (MIA) – A pre-trial judge at the Skopje-based Criminal Court has ordered 48-hour detention of four suspects in connection with the Trubarevo fire.
The four people are suspected for the crime of endangering the environment and nature with waste material.
"A pre-trial judge at the Basic Criminal Court Skopje, acting upon a proposal from the Public Prosecutor's Office - Skopje to order short-term detention for four people, who were brought to court late last night, in connection with the fire that broke out on September 13, 2025, in Trubarevo - Skopje, issued decisions accepting the proposal and ordered 48 hours in detention for the persons identified by the initials V.M., Z.S., M.D. and L.D.," the court said in a press release.
Based on reasonable suspicion for the crime of endangering the environment and nature with waste material, in connection with the Trubarevo fire, the Prosecutor's Office in Skopje launched proceedings against four people regarding whom it requested a pre-trial judge to order 48-hour detention in order to secure evidence, the Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.
"Their specific actions are under investigation, but involve a 56-year-old manager and owner of 2 legal entities, a 22-year-old manager of a third legal entity, a 42-year-old manager of a subsidiary, and a 59-year-old employee in a legal entity. The potential liability of other individuals is also under investigation," reads the press release.
Results from air contamination measurements carried out by the Ministry of Environment are pending.
The fire broke out at a waste recycling facility in the Skopje village of Trubarevo around 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Four people received medical care after the fire and all are in stable condition.
