Council of Public Prosecutors set to elect acting chief prosecutor

Skopje, 22 December 2023 (MIA) – The Council of Public Prosecutors is expected to appoint Friday an acting chief public prosecutor, who would succeed the current chief prosecutor, Ljubomir Joveski, whose term ends on December 25.

The acting chief prosecutor will remain in charge until the selection of a new chief public prosecutor, the procedure for which is currently underway. Three candidates have applied for the position – Fatime Fetai from the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office - Skopje, Lidija Raichevikj from the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office - Skopje, and Ljupcho Kocevski from the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The Parliament elects the chief prosecutor to a six-year term and is eligible for reappointment.
