Construction begins of new elementary school in Drachevo

Skopje, 26 June 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Minister of Education Vesna Janevska, and Kisela Voda Municipality Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski attended on Wednesday an event on launch of construction of a new elementary school "St. Clement of Ohrid" in Drachevo.

Mayor Gjorgjievski said that the new facility, with a spatial functionality of around 3600 square meters, will be finalized in about two years. The ground floor and two additional floors will hold a total of 19 classrooms and 7 teacher's rooms with a modern hall, a dining room with a kitchen, offices, basements, and other necessary rooms.

"Due to the passage of time, the current school building can no longer meet the needs of modern education. That is why this is not only an act of laying down the foundations of a new school, but of a whole new chapter that will be marked by a new home for many future generations of students. The new facility, with a special functionality of around 3600 square meters, will be finalized in about two years’ time," Gjorgjievski said.

PM Mickoski noted that on the third day since taking office he fulfilled the promise made to citizens of building a new facility in Drachevo. He added that this investment is worth more than EUR 1.5 million, with funds provided from the central budget.

"The citizens in Drachevo will get a new facility after 100 years. The previous facility is 100 years old. I wish that many children will use this facility, because children are our future, and everything we do in life we do for our children, to be proud of those that come after us. We continue to fight, with a furious pace, to fulfil the promises. I would like to note that the investment is worth more than EUR 1,5 million, with funds secured from the central budget," Mickoski stressed.

He added that the Budget rebalance will ensure additional Mden 6 billion (EUR 97,533,038) for municipalities.

"Late yesterday I had a meeting with the Minister of Finance, today we continue to work, preparing for the Budget rebalance and I can say that it will provide additional Mden 6 billion (EUR 97,533,038) for municipalities. A little more than what we originally planned, because we estimated that the announcement for municipalities will be made sometime in August, and the construction tenders will be published in September, in order to catch up with the autumn construction season. Although a third of the year will pass, we allocated more than a third of the funds," Mickoski said. ssh/nn/
