Constitutional Court delegation holds bilateral meeting with Turkish counterparts

Skopje, 15 November 2024 (MIA) - A delegation of the Constitutional Court, led by the court's president Darko Kostadinovski and including judges Fatmir Skender, Tatjana Vaskij Bozadzhieva, Ana Pavlovska Daneva and chief of staff Ekrem Halili, held a bilateral meeting with the president and judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey.

Kostadinovski pointed out that the meeting comes after longstanding cooperation and friendly relations with the Turkish Constitutional Court, as well as other judicial instances, the Constitutional Court said in a press release.

He stressed the importance of maintaining excellent relations, especially when it comes to joint membership in regional or international organizations in the field of constitutional law.

"I express great gratitude on behalf of the Constitutional Court for your initiative to continue this cooperation. In 2007, our predecessors, following the friendly relations between the two countries, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. What remains as our duty is to provide life, substance and dynamics to that Memorandum. This document is precisely the incentive and framework for us to jointly promote cooperation and mutual support in international forums such as the Balkan Forum of Constitutional Courts, which will be held in the Republic of Turkey in 2025, and in Macedonia in 2026, within the European and World Conference of Constitutional Courts," Kostadinovski said.

The judges, reads the press release, exchanged views on several topics of importance for the proceedings and jurisdictions of the two courts. Talks focused on the mechanisms for the enforcement of court decisions, the mechanisms for monitoring the enforcement of decisions, on which judge Ana Pavlovska Daneva and judge Fatmir Skender gave presentations, while judge Tatjana Vasikj Bozadzhieva gave her presentation on the topic of constitutional complaints.

Participants in the meeting also specified concrete areas for cooperation in the coming period, such as the use of the Research Center, which is part of the Constitutional Court of Turkey, continuing the practice of professional exchange, as well as possibilities for supporting the capacities of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of North Macedonia in terms of digitalization of the Court, equipping it with modern computers and other IT equipment.

Presidents Kostadinovski and Özkaya agreed on the dynamics and topics of the meetings. The next bilateral meeting, notes the Constitutional Court, will be held in 2025 in the Republic of North Macedonia.

As part of the visit, Constitutional Court president Kostadinovski also met with TIKA's vice-president Mahmud Çevik. At the friendly meeting, interlocutors exchanged information on the possibilities for further support from the organization to the Constitutional Court in terms of its digitization and renewal of IT equipment, in order to work more efficiently.
