CMC: Three fires active in North Macedonia
Skopje, 17 August 2021 (MIA) – At the moment there are three active fires in North Macedonia – near the village of Raovikj in the municipality of Saraj, the villages of Rakle, Nikodin and Toplica in the municipality of Prilep and a new one near the village of Nivichino in Strumica, Crisis Management Center (CMC) spokesperson Nadica Vchkova told a press conference on Tuesday. “The fire near the village of Raovikj is still active. Smoke was visible this morning coming from the mountain towards Matka, as well as near Osoj, between the villages of Bukovikj and Chajlane. Two helicopters were attempting to put this fire out yesterday,” Vchkova said. She added that the intensity of fire in the villages of Rakle, Nikodin and Toplica in the municipality of Prilep, located on inaccessible terrain, has weakened. “Fallen leaves and dry grass are burning. Currently, there is no danger of it spreading and affecting houses and populated areas. A team from PE National Forests has been sent there to assess the situation,” the spokesperson told reporters. A new fire, she underlined, has started near the Village of Nivichino, Strumica. “The fire is located on inaccessible ground and firefighters, as well as workers from the forest enterprise Belasica, have been out in the field since early morning,” Vchkova noted. The fire in the village of Barovo, Demir Kapija, has been extinguished, she stressed. The CMC urges citizens to report fires to the nearest institution or call the CMC’s emergency number – 195. However, it added, fake fire reports only make fighting existing fires more difficult.
