City of Skopje adopts public transport development plan

Skopje, 29 August 2024 (MIA) - City of Skopje council members adopted Thursday the draft-development plan for public transport of passengers 2024-2026, aimed at meeting the citizens' needs, progress and improvement of public transport in the capital.

The City of Skopje said in a press release it will continue to reform the bus transport and gradually renew the Public Transportation Enterprise (JSP) Skopje fleet vehicles with new eco-friendly buses. A study of a new network of bus lines is being developed, which takes into consideration the needs of public transport users. Rehabilitation of bus stops and terminals will continue, as will the advancement of the passenger info-system.

The integrated tariff system will be upgraded toward improving the quality of transport and increased flow of passengers in vehicles, whereas taxi transport will be subsidized through a public call for eco-friendly vehicles.

Council members adopted the 2024 draft-programmes of activities in the field of traffic, environment protection and local economic development, amendments to programme in the fields of secondary education and funding of public institutions, programme for protection of Gazi Baba nature park and Vodno protected area, draft-plan for energy efficiency, amendments to the programme for public cleanliness, greenery, disinfection and hoisting flags on national holidays and other occasions.

Council members did not adopt the draft-programme for cooperation with associations and foundations, the decision to give consent for conclusion of agreement on implementation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the decision on procurement of eco-friendly buses.
