Beijing, 8 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday warned against misunderstandings ahead of US President Donald Trump's expected visit to the People's Republic.
If the two countries turn their backs on one another, this will lead to mutual misperception and miscalculation, he said in Beijing on the sidelines of the National People's Congress.
A path towards conflict and confrontation "could drag the whole world down," an official write up of Wang's comments in English read.
"The relationship between China and the United States is one of far-reaching and global implications," the statement read.
Trump has announced plans to visit China, which according to reports could happen at the end of March. Beijing has not yet confirmed this.
Trump and China's head of state and party leader Xi Jinping last met in South Korea at the end of October ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, where they agreed, among other things, to a temporary pause in their ongoing trade dispute.
Disputes remain over issues such as the export of rare earths from China and computer chips from the US. There has been recent speculation that Beijing could postpone the visit because of the US attack on Iran, one of China's economic partners.
