Chief Prosecutor Kocevski says 14 suspects in Kochani nightclub fire case

Skopje, 17 March 2025 (MIA) - Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski said Monday 14 people are suspected of crime "severe acts against general safety" after the Kochani nightclub fire that claimed 59 lives. Prosecutors are also investigating allegations of giving and taking bribe, as well as illicit procurement of stage pyrotechnics.
Kocevski said nine prosecutors are working intensively to secure evidence in the case, with searches also carried out in the Ministry of Economy and two other sites in Skopje.
"The police is authorized to arrest anyone who contributed to the devastating consequences, through their actions or inaction," he added.
Kocevski said they have asked for the involvement of the building and labor inspectors, considering the regulations on occupational safety, as well as experts in various fields.
Hearings on detention motions are currently taking place in the Kochani Basic Court.
"Fourteen persons are currently being processed. Regarding the on-site investigation, all relevant facts and evidence have been secured, with additional analyses and expertise in specific fields to follow," noted Kocevski.
Asked if he could guarantee an outcome in the case, the Chief Prosecutor said, "I promise the citizens that the investigation will be swift, efficient and all those who committed incriminating acts will be held responsible".
