Chair residential building fire extinguished, says CMC

Skopje, 3 October 2024 (MIA) - The fire that broke out in the basement of residential building in Skopje’s Chair Municipality yesterday morning has been completely extinguished. The state of the affected part of the building and apartments are yet to be determined, the Crisis Management Center (CMC) said on Thursday.

According to CMC, the fire, which until this morning it was still active and being put out by three firefighting vehicles from a Skopje Fire Department, was extinguished by 9:30 am.

Seven vehicles and 20 firefighters were engaged in the battle against the blazes that broke out yesterday at 1:50 pm in Chair Municipality due to a warehouse at "Prohor Pcinjski" street no. 136 catching fire, in the basement of the building.

"Several residents were evacuated from the fire that spread to a residential building and several businesses, engulfed in thick black fog. At 2:25 ambulances confirmed that first aid was administered to 10 children, 21 adults, firefighter, and one pregnant woman. In addition to the Skopje Firefighting Brigade, the Army of North Macedonia was also deployed," CMC stated in a press release.

The firefighting army vehicle took part in extinguishing the fire, which according to CMC, was difficult to manage due to the amount of smoke and high temperature in the basement that housed large amounts of flammable materials.

Some media reported that the affected rooms were used as storage space by a company with large amounts of plastic products. ssh/ba/
