Skopje, 29 November 2023 (MIA) — Parliament's call for a new state public prosecutor was published Wednesday in the Official Gazette and in two daily newspapers, after lawmakers voted Monday to appoint a new public prosecutor.
Outgoing chief prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski's term in office ends in December.
According to the Law on Public Prosecutor's Office, applications may be submitted within 15 days after the call's publication in the Official Gazette.
Eligible candidates are those who have at least 10 years' experience as a public prosecutor or as a criminal judge.
The chief public prosecutor is appointed by Parliament, at the proposal of the Government after it has decided on a candidate based on the opinion of the Council of Public Prosecutors' review of the list of applicants.
The state public prosecutor's term of office is six years and they may be reelected to another term.
Joveski was appointed State Public Prosecutor on Dec. 25, 2017, succeeding Marko Zvrlevski who had been dismissed in August 2017.
Meanwhile, Members of Parliament from the Albanian opposition bloc filed a motion seeking a no-trust vote over Joveski's work regarding the PPO investigation into the September 2021 fire in the Tetovo modular Covid-19 hospital, which killed 14 patients. mr/
