Bytyqi visits REK Bitola, ESM meets 100 pct of households and small consumers electricity needs
Skopje, 23 October 2022 (MIA) - Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi alongside Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) director general Vasko Kovachevski visited on Sunday mining-power complex REK Bitola and held a working meeting with the REK Bitola management and production units and also visited the Suvodol coal mine. Deputy PM Bytyqi thanked all the employees of REK Bitola for everything they do, for their efforts to respond positively to the challenge we are facing with the production and supply of a sufficient amount of electricity from domestic production, during the entire period of energy crisis, the government said in a press release. “This is government's concrete action in response to the crisis. We said that together, with joint forces, we will overcome this period and this is how all measures are taken to ensure sufficient electricity,” Bytyqi said. He also reminded that the saving electricity continues to be the responsibility of everyone. According to the press release, the production of AD ESM met 100 percent of the electricity needs for households and small consumers. Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) on Saturday succeeded from its own domestic capacities to provide 12,040 MWh electricity to households and small consumers. ESM director general Kovachevski stated that the overhaul of the thermal power plant was completed and block 1 was successfully put into operation, while block 2 is continuously in operation. “In the coming period, the transformer for block 3 is expected to be installed, which will enable all three production blocks of REK Bitola to be operational,” Kovachevski said. Bytyqi and Kovachevski also visited the Suvodol coal mine and saw increased coal excavation operations which lead to increased electricity production by REK Bitola. “We give strong support to the employees, in these difficult conditions to fulfill the plans, because the government tasked us with ensuring 25% more domestic electricity production during this year in order to overcome the crisis,” Kovachevski said.
