Bytyqi: Benefits of Ohrid Framework Agreement are visible
Skopje, 13 August 2021 (MIA) – Good relations between ethnicities, social cohesion, non-discrimination and tolerance, their implementation and continued use are the postulates of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, signed 20 years ago today, Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi underlined in a written statement on Friday.
“All people in this country deserve to live with dignity and enjoy equal rights and freedoms. Therein lies the importance of the Ohrid Agreement, which introduced new opportunities for all communities, allowing all citizens to participate equally in our country’s development. We ought to see it as a document that sets the foundations for ensuring the civil rights of all citizens, regardless of their nationality. Therefore, we have to continue implementing it. This is the right thing to do, in line with modern European values that we strive to achieve. One homeland, one society for all!,” read the statement.
The benefits of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, Bytyqi stresses, are visible.
“A large number of laws and legislative changes have been adopted, most of which in regard to non-discrimination and equal representation, as well as in areas of identity, culture, education and decentralization as a means for balanced economic development. We’ve ensured the dignity of all citizens because everyone deserves an equal chance,” Bytyqi noted.
The Ohrid Framework Agreement, he added, represents a framework for interethnic cohabitation, equality, togetherness and multiculturalism.
“Even though it reminds us of the armed conflict, it also urges us to resolve disputes in a peaceful and dignified manner. Finally, the Ohrid Framework Agreement ensured everyone felt equal and could participate equally in the country’s development,” read Bytyqi’s statement.
