Businessman Kamchev released from prison after court orders concurrent sentences
Skopje, 9 November 2022 (MIA) - Businessman Jordan Kamchev is a free man since Nov. 6 after a month ago he had requested and was allowed by the Skopje Criminal Court to serve concurrent sentences.
In April 2022, Kamchev in the so called "Vodno Lots" trial was sentenced to one year in prison. In the so called "Empire" case, he was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty and was ordered to pay EUR 5.2 million in damages.
In the meantime, Kamchev changed his address of residence from Skopje to Ohrid. Thus, the Ohrid Court became the competent institution that had issued an order for serving the prison sentence in the Struga open prison. The businessman served almost four months there.
In the meantime, according to the law, Kamchev asked the Skopje Criminal Court to merge his two year-long sentences. Since the single prison sentence has to be lower than the two sentences together, the court ordered him to serve 20 months. The time he had spent in detention, both in jail and at home, was also calculated in the sentence.
According to media reports, before being released, Kamchev was given a month-long pardon by the warden due to good behavior all the while using his right to weekend releases and 20-day annual leave.
