Bulgarian-Macedonian chamber urges Zaev and Yanev to resolve political crisis
Sofia, 30 November 2021 (MIA) – The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sent a declaration to the Prime Ministers of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, Zoran Zaev and Stefan Yanev to express concern over the negative impact of bilateral disputes on business and trade relations between the two countries and urged for the political crisis to be resolved, MIA reports from Sofia. According to the chamber, since the two countries signed the Friendship Treaty on Aug. 2, 2018, none of the proposed measures have been implemented. “Bulgarian and Macedonian citizens continue to pay highest roaming in the region, have to pass through two borders and customs controls and don’t enjoy tax exemptions. Moreover, none of the cross-border infrastructure projects have been implemented,” reads the document. Bulgaria and North Macedonia, the released added, share no transport, digital and infrastructure ties. Instead they engage in confrontation, administrative barriers, animosity and lack of understanding and cooperation prospects. The declaration called on the governments in both countries to overcome the political crisis and make efforts to ensure economic connection with the aim of creating a “shared European home in the Balkans, business without borders and cultural connection and understanding.”
