Bulgaria launches tender for section of highway leading to border with North Macedonia
Sofia, 10 August 2022 (MIA) – The Bulgarian Government Agency “Road Infrastructure” announced Wednesday that it has opened a tender call for the selection of contractor for the development of a conceptual and technical project with a detailed layout – plot plan for the construction of the “Gyueshevo – Dupnitsa” highway.  MIA’s Sofia correspondent reports that the route will enable convenient connection between the trans-European transport corridor “Orient/East-Med”, which includes the route of the “Struma” highway, and the border with the Republic of North Macedonia. This route is part of the main TEN-T Network. It is expected for the highway length to be around 62 kilometers.  The construction of the new highway, which means the duplication of a few roads in Bulgaria in the I-6 Gyueshevo – Kyustendil region and II-62 Kyustendil – Dupnitsa region, will enable fast, convenient and safe transportation of people and goods, as well as a direct connection to the city of Dupnitsa with the Struma highway and the entire surrounding highway network.  With the realization of the public procurement during the conceptual design phase, alternative solutions will be considered for the construction of the route between the “Gyueshevo” border point and the “Struma” highway, with a design speed of 120 km/h, after which the implementation of appropriate environmental procedures will begin.  After clearance from the relevant environmental authorities, it will be possible for the development of the technical project of the approved route to begin, as well as a project for a Detailed Development Plan. The estimated price of the project is EUR 1.6 million without VAT, and the funds are secured from the budget of the Bulgarian Government’s infrastructure agency. The project development deadline is 150 calendar days starting from the date of the signing of the contract and includes only the design time. ad/nn/   Photo: MIA archive
