British Embassy Skopje launches 'Plant a tree for the Jubilee' initiative to celebrate 70th Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II
Skopje, 24 November 2022 (British Embassy/MIA) - British Embassy Skopje launched the ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee' initiative at the beginning of this year to mark the celebration of the 70th Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Everyone from individuals to villages, cities, schools and corporates were encouraged to play their part to enhance the environment by planting trees and the British Embassy Skopje set up a tree planting initiative in North Macedonia. We have planted over 70 trees in the garden of the President’s Office, schools, kindergartens and communities. The British Embassy Skopje together with the National Forests enterprise and the business community will help support planting of 13.000 trees to re-forest 5 hectares of land with carefully selected tree species, native to the region. The local businesses that supported this initiative have donated over half a million denars towards re-forestation. Ambassador Matthew Lawson said “Business has a key role to play in addressing the challenges of climate change. I am very pleased to join representatives of the Forest Agency as well as the business sector from North Macedonia in Veles, to support re-forestation in areas of North Macedonia where they are needed most. Forests are an essential part of keeping 1.5 alive and adapting to climate impacts. I would like to thank Alkaloid, Kuehne Nagel, Sparkasse Bank, NLB Bank, Universal Group, British Children Academy, Quehenberger and Deni International for their support of the initiative and their contribution.”
