Bozhinovska: Women are not waiting for the future, they are creating it

Skopje, 8 March 2025 (MIA) - Women are not the future of energy and mining – they are the present, the Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska said at the event "Energy of Success: Where Women Create, the Future Changes."

The event, organized by Minister Bozhinovska, was focused on the women who are shaping the future of energy and mining, industries that have traditionally been viewed as "male," yet are now undergoing transformations led by women.

“When women are part of decision-making, energy strategies are smarter, and resources are used more efficiently. This is not a struggle for recognition, but a struggle for results. As a minister, my role is not only to 'motivate' women to enter the sector but to provide the conditions for them to advance in it,” Bozhinovska said in her speech.

She emphasized the specific actions the Ministry has taken to support women in these sectors, including professional development, mentorship programs, and gender balance in leadership.

The event was also attended by the UN Resident Coordinator in the country and renowned international gender equality expert, Rita Columbia, who spoke about her journey as a woman.

“The goal before me and my determination to help women around the world is what has pushed me forward. As a woman, I understand what stands in our way. It is important not to walk this journey alone, to have real support and partnership in our families and environment, and to support each other as women, work as a team, and advance together,” Columbia said.

The event featured two inspiring panel discussions, where over 50 women leaders from the industry shared their experiences and visions.

“In order to create a community of women in the sector, we need to invest in mentorship and elevate the voices of those who have already succeeded. Their stories are the most powerful inspiration and will motivate and open pathways,” the participants said.

The "Energy of Success" event was not only a celebration of women's successes in energy and mining, but also a call to action. It underscored the need for gender equality, support, and inclusion in these fields, along with the importance of a collective commitment to support women in STEM careers – to inspire more young girls to choose this profession.

"Your stories are powerful. Your achievements are inspirational. And your dreams are achievable. Keep breaking barriers and inspiring others! Together, we can do it all," Minister Sanja Bozhinovska said.
