Skopje, 9 October 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska met Thursday with the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden, Ola Sohlström.
The meeting reaffirmed the existing good cooperation between the two countries, with a joint interest expressed in its further enhancement, especially in energy and infrastructure projects.
Minister Bozhinovska introduced Ambassador Sohlström to key strategic projects at the Ministry, as well as plans to accelerate the energy transition. Bozhinovska said the country is committed to the modernization of its energy system, increasing the participation of renewables, and improving energy sustainability, which, according to the Minister, creates opportunities for cooperation with Swedish partners and businesses.

“Talks also focused on the opportunity to make use of the Technical Documentation Fund, an instrument through which Sweden supports the development of technical documentation for infrastructure and energy projects. So far, Macedonian projects have not participated in this fund, and Minister Bozhinovska emphasized that participation in the TDF could be significant for advancing projects in the areas of energy efficiency, modernization of infrastructure, and smart energy solutions, given the extensive experience of Swedish companies and institutions in these areas,” the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources said in a press release after the meeting.
According to the Ministry, Ambassador Sohlström stressed that many Swedish companies are interested in developments in the energy sector of the country and the region, and expressed a desire to encourage greater economic cooperation, both through the presence of Swedish companies on the Macedonian energy market, and the entry of Macedonian businesses on the Swedish market.
Sohlström stressed that Sweden remains a firm friend and supporter in the country’s Euro-integration process and voiced his hope that the country will become a full-fledged member of the European Union soon.
