Bozhinovska – Columbia: Solar and wind parks for energy stability 

Skopje, 24 January 2025 (MIA) - Ongoing activities and projects being implemented in the country with the support of UN organizations were discussed at a meeting Friday between Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in North Macedonia, Rita Columbia.

The focus of the meeting, according to the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, was placed on priorities in green energy, with an emphasis on the development of renewable sources and support for energy efficiency projects.

“Minister Bozhinovska and Columbia agreed that accelerating investments in solar parks, wind farms and other green technologies is essential for the long-term energy stability of the country and protection of the environment. Additionally, they underscored the significance of the national priorities in sustainable development and their alignment with global standards, especially in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and the National Development Strategy,” said the Ministry in a press release.

Bozhinovska and Columbia also discussed preparations for a significant energy forum that will be held in Skopje in 2025 under the auspices of the United Nations.

“The forum will bring together leading global experts, government representatives and companies in order to exchange best practices for a just energy transition and lower dependence on fossil fuels. This initiative is a significant opportunity for our country to position itself as a regional leader in the use of renewable sources of energy,” the Ministry said.

Minister Bozhinovska stressed the Ministry’s readiness to amplify efforts to realize strategic green projects and expressed gratitude to the assistance provided by the United Nations, as a key driver of sustainable development and the promotion of the living standard of the citizens.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Bozhinovska and Columbia affirmed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation on a technical level between the UN agencies and the Ministry, in order to realize projects that will directly benefit the citizens, the Ministry said.
