Skopje, 3 August 2023 (MIA) — The wildfire near Bogdanci, which broke out around 11 am in the Brdarov Kamen area next to the Dojran Lake pumping station, has spread despite the efforts of two firefighting aircraft, the Crisis Management Center said in a press release.

The Protection and Rescue Directorate firefighting planes have so far made more than 19 flights dropping water on the fire, the release says.

A police helicopter was also deployed to help extinguish the flames.

Firefighting teams from Gevgelija and Valandovo as well as National Forests employees and Bogdanci water utility company staff are battling the blazes on the ground.

The fire broke out in an area of low-growing shrubs and grasses and spread quickly. mr/
