Bochvarski: Working to overcome MEPSO cyberattack

Bochvarski: Working to overcome MEPSO cyberattack

Skopje, 8 March 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski said Friday they are working to overcome the cyberattack at the Electricity Transmission System Operator of North Macedonia (MEPSO), in order to restore the company's normal operations.

"All domestic and international institutions have been briefed and we are all working to overcome the problem and bring the company's operational back to normal," Minister Bochvarski told reporters.

According to him, these cyberattacks are not new and happen in other regional countries as well.

MEPSO said yesterday it is dealing with a cyberattack, but stressed that the integrity of the power grid and the supply of electricity have not been threatened.

The state-owned company said its critical energy infrastructure was not the target of the attack and it remains secure and fully functional.

At a time when the whole world is facing a negative global trend of cyberattacks, our company didn’t remain immune to this either. Even though AD MEPSO has taken all measures meant to protect against cyberattacks at the highest level, we faced incidents of this kind in recent days. Considering that the core activity of AD MEPSO is the transmission of electricity and management of the electric power system, we would like to inform the public that the critical energy infrastructure remains secure, fully functional, and was not the target of the cyberattack. This means that the complete integrity of the power grid and the supply of electricity have not been threatened, said MEPSO in a press release.
