Biologic drugs for cancer patients to be available this week, say health minister and HIF director

Skopje, 27 January 2025 (MIA) - The six biologic drugs that were not available to patients at the Oncology Clinic will be distributed this week, said Health Minister Arben Taravari and Health Insurance Fund (HIF) director Sasho Klekovski on Monday.

Minister Taravari said 90 percent of the cancer drugs are available at the Oncology Clinic.

"There is shortage only of biologic drugs, and for a period of 6-7 days. I hope these drugs will be distributed to the clinic this week. The amount of biologic drugs has even been increased but patients' needs are much bigger. Let me repeat, biologic drugs at the Oncology Clinic will be available again in the course of the week," Taravari told reporters.

HIF director Klekovski also said the procedure over the distribution of biologic drugs will be completed shortly.

"A portion of the drugs will be donated, others will be provided through annexes to existing agreements. Therefore, I believe that the critical drugs will be available quite soon," said Klekovski.

The Oncology Clinic said last week it had run out of biologics due to the recent rise in cancer cases nationwide and the complicated procurement procedures.
