Skopje, 25 April 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Finance Fatmir Besimi told the business community on Tuesday that the realization of the construction project for corridors VIII and X-d will have numerous economic benefits.

“Those who are economists and are familiar with economic theory, but also those who work in business, know what an investment multiplier means. According to a feasibility study, 3000 new jobs are directly linked to the project. An additional 5000 are indirectly linked, for a total of around 8000 jobs. Additionally, from the aspect of investments of EUR 1 billion and EUR 300 million over a five-year construction period, this amounts to a nominal 2 percent of GDP, new funds for investments from the Budget,” said Besimi in answer to a question from the representatives of the business community at the Economic Chamber regarding the Bechtel-Enka corridors construction project.

The tax exemptions in the contract, he added, are not exclusive. Such provisions apply to all infrastructure projects that pass through Parliament.

"The tax exemptions free up liquidity in business, and reduce the tax burden of our business community. Finally, this applies to the entire project, domestic companies are exempt from paying taxes as well," said Besimi.
