Skopje, 1 November 2023 (MIA) - Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi says North Macedonia will wait until the end of November for a response over its request to the European Commission related to the tax that Bulgaria has introduced for transit of Russian gas.
"We will wait for a response to our request addressed to the European Commission over the Bulgarian tax for transit of Russian gas. We demand that additional quantities of the Gazprom-leased pipeline are freed up. If the quantities we need are not released, we will ask for compensation from the European Commission due to violation of their directives, maybe even through international litigation with EC and Bulgartransgaz," Minister Bekteshi told TV24.
On October 13, Bulgaria introduced a national transit tax for the Russian gas in the amount of EUR 10 per MWh, which is expected to yield annual revenues between EUR 1.2-1.5 billion.
