Bekteshi: Food sector to find alternate electricity supplier

Bekteshi: Food sector to find alternate electricity supplier

Skopje, 28 February 2023 (MIA) - The Government's decision to terminate the subsidized electricity price for companies of the food sector is set to be published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday.

As of April 1, manufacturers of basic food products will get electricity in line with the Law on Energy and will have to find an alternate electricity supplier, in line with the grid rules and their agreements with Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) Sales.

"The agreements were signed in line with the previous grid rules. There is sufficient time until April 1 to make the proper arrangements," noted Minister Bekteshi.

He added that most of the approximately 250 companies that received subsidized electricity did not honor the agreement to reduce prices of basic food products, while a portion of them reduced the prices between 7-12 percent, as the Government had expected.

The decision on subsidized electricity price for the food sector was enforced in December 2022.
