At least 14 killed in Russian airstrike on Kiev, authorities say

Kiev, 17 June 2025 (dpaMIA) – At least 14 people have been killed in a Russian airstrike on the Ukrainian capital Kiev, the city's military administration said on Tuesday.

"The search for people under the rubble continues," wrote Tymur Tkachenko, head of the administration, on Telegram.

The Interior Ministry said that more than 40 people were injured in the strike.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said fires had broken out at 27 locations across the city. Residential buildings, education institutions and critical infrastructure were affected, he added.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram also reported multiple fires.

According to a report by the Kyiv Independent, reporters on the ground heard drone and missile sounds and numerous explosions in the city.

The news agency RBK-Ukraine reported power outages in the capital.

Numerous drones were also fired at the port city of Odessa, according to its mayor.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a large-scale Russian invasion for more than three years.

Kiev is usually better protected by air defences than other cities in the country. Nevertheless, the capital is repeatedly hit by heavy attacks with drones or missiles.
