At least 14 injured by Russian drone attack in north-eastern Ukraine

Kiev, 12 September 2024 (dpa/MIA) - At least 14 Ukrainian civilians were injured overnight in a Russian drone attack in the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Konotop, authorities said on Thursday.

The regional prosecutor's office reported that several residential buildings, schools and shops were damaged.

Power and water supplies were disrupted in the city, which had a population of almost 90,000 before the Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Repair teams were trying to reconnect the hospital and the waterworks to the power grid, wrote Mayor Artem Semenikhin on Telegram.

It was not possible to predict when homes will be supplied with electricity again, he said.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian army attacked overnight with five missiles and 64 Iranian-made combat drones. They said 44 drones were intercepted.

The information could not be independently verified.

Air defences were also deployed multiple times in the Kiev region to shoot down incoming drones.
