At European Front rally, Osmani calls for large voter turnout

Skopje, 21 April 2024 (MIA) — The DUI-led European Front coalition's presidential candidate Bujar Osmani addressed Sunday an election rally at Skopje's Macedonia square and encouraged a large turnout saying there was a chance an Albanian candidate made the runoff.

Osmani said he was backed by nine political parties and four communities, making up 47 percent of the population in North Macedonia.

"I am asking you to mobilize, to make it possible for us to break through this barrier. Euphoria is being created. That's why we call on you, folks, to achieve this historic victory, to make the runoff," Osmani said.

In his speech, Osmani recalled the Parliament storming of April 27, which he said was a result of apppointing an Albanian Parliament Speaker, Talat Xhaferi.

The memories were still fresh, he said, highlighting that it was one of the most terrible events in the history of the country. He also recalled that Alliance for Albanians leader Zijadin Sela had been in danger of losing his life.

"Seven years ago, almost exactly to this day, several hundreds of meters from here, the most terrible events of our country's recent history took place in North Macedonia's Parliament," Osmani said.

"You remember the events of April 27. The images of our bloody MPs are still in front of us. What was the reason? That Talat Xhaferi became Parliament Speaker. What was the problem? Merely that he was Albanian and nothing else. I still remember the images of Zijadin Sela who almost lost his life that day," Osmani said. mr/
