Army Chief of Staff Gjurchinovski in Romania visit
Skopje, 17 November 2022 (MIA) – Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-General Vasko Gjurchinovski is completing Thursday his visit to Romania, during which he met with counterpart, General Daniel Petrescu, and visited the commands of the Romanian Armed Forces. Gjurchinovski and Petrescu discussed security developments, identification of ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and measures to strengthen NATO’s deterrence capabilities and defense positions in the eastern flank, as well as participation of the Army of North Macedonia in NATO missions planned in Romania, the General Staff said in a press release. General Petrescu thanked North Macedonia for its contribution in the allied solidarity and unity in the common defense policy, but also increasing interoperability that is to be achieved through joint training and activities. During the visit, General Gjurchinovski paid a visit to the garrison where Army members are set to be deployed within the NATO multinational forces, but also the Military College, the main HQs of the land, air and naval forces, as well as an infantry battalion. In addition, the Army delegation took part in a security conference, discussing current challenges and the security architecture in the broader Black Sea region amid the Ukraine conflict, along with the new NATO Strategic Concept. Since 1998, cooperation between the armies of North Macedonia and Romania has focused on expert meetings, joint exercises and training, military education, and participation in regional initiatives and fora, reads the press release.
