Anti-crisis measures expire, VAT for food and fuels back to previous rates

Anti-crisis measures expire, VAT for food and fuels back to previous rates
Skopje, 1 June 2022 (MIA) – A portion of the anti-crisis measures that the Government introduced in March to mitigate the effects of the energy prices and protect the people’s standard, expire on Wednesday, meaning that basic food products will no longer be sold at a zero-percent VAT rate. Over the past three months, VAT for bread, flour, sunflower oil, milk, rice and eggs was cut from five to zero percent, whereas trade margins were also lowered. VAT for fuels was also reduced from 18 to 10 percent, a measure that also expires. Authorities have not said if the measures would be extended, while the opposition announced it would submit a draft-law in Parliament on VAT exemption for basic food products until the end of the year and a five-percent VAT rate for fuels.
